The Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism is the first and basic sacrament of Christian initiation. Baptism is conferred by pouring water three times on the recipient's head, while reciting the baptismal formula: "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit". The ordinary minister of the sacrament is a bishop, priest or a deacon. In case of necessity, anyone intending to do what the Church does, even if that person is not a Christian, can baptize.

The sacrament frees one from original sin and all personal sins, and from the punishment due to them. The many symbols of baptism include a white garment, symbolizing innocence and purity, a candle, symbolizing the Light of Christ, the Oil of Chrism, which is used to anoint the baby or candidate (catechumen) being baptized, and the water, which symbolizes cleansing and the washing away of sin.

Are you a parent who is seeking Baptism for your child?

To prepare for the sacrament, we need some information about the family. When you click on the words “Parish Baptism Enrollment Form”, you will link to the Baptism enrollment form. Print the Baptism enrollment form and clearly print the required family information.

Please bring the completed form to St Martin parish office to register for Baptism classes. Our Baptism Ministry prepares parents and godparents for thus wonderful celebration.

The parish office personnel will provide additional information and answer any questions you might have about the sacrament.

Baptism for Children from 7 to 17 Years Old

Children in the age group need to contact Pam Bender the Parish Children’s Faith Formation director at (714) 970-2771. Pam will provide assistance on the requirements for Baptism for this age group.

Baptism for Adults over the Age of 18

Adults over the age of 18 need to contact Cindy Piszyk the Parish Adult Faith Formation director at (714) 970-2771. Cindy will provide assistance on the requirements for Adult Baptism.
