SCCs are not an additional ministry, but an integral building block of St. Martin de Porres Parish. The role of SCCs are to be a smaller, more intimate experience of “church” (the living Body of Christ on Earth) for our parishioners.
SCC participants should experience gradual growth in their spiritual journeys. They should find that they simply pray more than they used to, are more aware of God in their lives, have a natural comfort with and desire to help those in need, and are not alone in their struggles and questions. The role of their SCC in supporting this gradual transformation may be subtle, but nonetheless, very real.
Small Christian Communities have been endorsed by the Bishops of the Diocese.
What happens in a SCC group meeting?
A group of 8 to 14 people meet with a trained Facilitator for about 2 hours, either weekly or every other week for 13 weeks, followed by a 3 to 4 week break until another session begins. Group sharing will be focused on Sunday scripture readings from the “Quest” series. Each gathering will include: welcoming/social time, music, opening prayer, scripture reading, reflection, faith sharing, outreach planning, closing prayer & petitions. While participants are encouraged to remain with the same group for as long as it is serving their needs, the break will provide individuals with the opportunity to join another group if they wish.
